"Kurt and his company Vivid Built completed a renovation of our Victorian-era house in Randwick in December 2023. Our house is in a heritage zone and the work included cosmetic restoration to the front part of the house which remained, in keeping with the period features, and new build to extend the ground floor and add a first floor. The new build included addition of two bathrooms, a bedroom, rumpus room, walk in robe, laundry, butler’s pantry and balcony. Kurt was present throughout the renovation; he was thorough and considered when potential issues were identified (such as damaged brickwork in the old part of the house) and responsive when we requested changes to our plans along the way. We were impressed with the quality of workmanship throughout the renovation and could not be more pleased with the finished work from both a structural and aesthetic perspective. Proven reputation in building 
In 2016 we had finished a major renovation when we decided that we needed more and looked to a second floor attic extension. This was always going to be a tricky job - we had limited access, we needed to live in, the plans were being done by a drafter not an architect to save costs and we had a cast iron budget which had no stretch at all. I had seen the work done by Vivid Built on a major house renovation in my street - one that had been very challenging structurally - and i had heard only good reports about them and  my neighbour had been so impressed by their manner and the results. I was very pleased when they agreed to take our job on.

Professional and efficient 
From the outset the job presented difficulties structurally and logistically but Kurt worked through these all and kept the plans on track and on budget. As often happens with an old house we found some unexpected issues but Kurt explained it so well and clearly that we could see exactly what the issue was and could see reasons for variations. To make matters very more challenging we were hit with some of the century's worst weather the minute the roof came off. Kurt worked tirelessly to keep the work moving and us as warm and dry as possible. 

innovation and Problem solving 
Throughout the job they helped us find some innovative solutions and also suggested some modifications that created extra storage and some clever features we had not even thought of. 
Through all of this we had a team working in our house as we went about our lives and at all times, even in the most challenging of situations (think pouring rain, flapping tarps and gale winds) - through all of this Kurt and  whatever trades were there were polite, considerate, immaculate and helpful. They are true gentlemen to have around.

Attention to detail 
There were also times when attention to detail was everything. A tricky wooden staircase was done but the colour was not quite right and Kurt insisted that it be redone and he made sure it was exactly as intended. The quality of their work is unequalled and years on we have not had one single issue with leaks, paint work or the finishes.

On time and on budget 
This was a tricky and challenging job in an old house - but it produced a result that increased our home's living space and  value substantially for the investment. Thanks to Vivid Built - this job was delivered on time, on budget, with exemplary workmanship and with care and attention to detail that exceeded our hopes and expectations.  The Vivid Built team are truly exceptional builders - and are professional in every aspect of their work and the delivery of a quality building result.

" We first met Kurt Kowaltschny and Vivid Built back in early 2019 after we purchased  our property and decided on pretty much a full knock-down rebuild. We had met with a number of builders but when we met Kurt we instantly knew he was the builder for us.

Both my husband and I had a strong vision for what we wanted from our new home and to achieve this we had to push the boundaries of design code and council allowances to maximize space, sunlight and privacy. As a novice but enthusiastic interior designer I was looking for a builder that could share and get excited by our vision for the house and someone who would let me remain involved in the selection of fixtures and fittings. Kurt promised to be supportive and we could tell he was as excited by the potential of our project.

Kicking off our project just as the pandemic hit was tough, but Kurt remained calm, and despite trades being difficult to lock in and materials in short supply he continually pushed our project forward past numerous challenges with difficult neighbors, a demanding local council and a construction site next door.

Not to mention the terrible weather conditions we experienced over the past few years. What I always valued in Kurt was his responsiveness. Kurt would never ignore a call, always took the time to explain updates to the timelines and budget and was patient with me as I created designs for cabinetry and selected fixtures and fittings, providing guidance on the order of things and my deadlines for procurement.

I’d say the other stand out trait with regards to Kurt is the pride he takes in his work. He has a great attention to detail and won’t settle for anything but perfection. And as a fellow perfectionist I valued this enormously.

Kurt’s tradies were all very respectful and hard working. Kurt made sure they all regularly cleaned up after themselves and ran a tight ship when it came to their behavior within our home. We have two small children so this was much appreciated, especially because we liked to drop in on the site on a regular basis to show the kids the progress on the house.

I’m very impressed with where Kurt has taken his business. He was the youngest of all the builders we interviewed when deciding who to progress with, but his age hasn’t impacted the quality of his work. I am greatly appreciative of the beautiful, quality home he has built for our family. It wasn’t an easy build (to say the least) but we got there in the end and the results (in my opinion) are stunning. I have referred him to numerous friends and will continue to for many years, until he tells me he’s got too much work to handle!"
